2023-2024 (Current)

4/25/24

Yesterday was our poster session and it was very successful. We summarized our final journey in WISRD.

3/6/24

Unfortunately, the professor never responded to our email. However, since the last update, we made videos for Ivy so that she can study how the EMOTIV operates as this is our final year at WISRD. In doing this, we are in a transitionary period where we are handing over the reins. Today, I am beginning to write my article on Neuroplasticity for the Inquirer. I am also finishing my research for said article.

1/18/24

We’ve used the weeks back from break to finish our research paper. Now we’re reaching out to a professor at Loyola Marymount University who will help us with our research and will allow us to exchange data.

9/28/23

Today we sent emails to both Sky (10th grader) and Jacob. We emailed Sky to make a meeting to run the headset on her because she has a fixed mindset. We emailed Jacob to send him the form to see if he had a fixed or growth mindset; although he had a growth mindset, his data is still useful.

9/22/23

A few days ago we ran the headset on Jacob; unfortunately, we forgot to record the video. Now we’re gathering our data and photos for our upcoming research paper.

9/14/23

Today we are making the video

9/07/23

On Tuesday, Kezie and I had a meeting with people from WISL to talk about the puppy play day. In that meeting, we discussed the plan for seniors and informed them about our lab a little.

9/01/23

Today Kezie is absent, but we plan on running on Canada. We also bought the EMOTIV VIZ which is software that expanded on the headset and let us visualize or brain activity with colors.

8/28/23

Today we sent emails to Liza and planned the logistics of running our headset on students before and after a puppy visit.

8/25/23

Today we ran the EMOTIV Headset on me and measured my levels of stress while doing a test through the computer. We then began trying it on Canada, but didn’t have enough time to run the tests.

8/24/23

First day of my second year at WISRD. I will be working in the physiology group with Canada and Kezie in the second semester I believe. We will be working with the EMOTIV headset looking at stress in high school students. We will also be trying to connect that with the prosthetics.

2020-2021

Previous Research Interests:

I am interested in working on technology and I have coded before, so I went to Arduino.io. The Arduino will be used for the radio telescopes. I read through their website and I can download software to code the Arduino. I also watched a video on how the coding works.

9/8/20

I am using Twitter to post a tweet about Arduino and system integration.

9/11/20

There are pre-made examples that you can search for in Tinkercad and then look at the text to see common patterns. To find out more about what they do there are descriptions about it on Arduino.cc. So far I’m just going down the examples list.

Week of 9/22/20

My goal for Tuesday’s class is to understand what the State Change Detection does and try to better understand the code. I also found out that the purpose of the breadboard is that you don’t need to use solder. When I read the comments the purpose of State Change Detection is to detect the push of a button and perform a function. On Wednesday’s class, I checked out Analog In and Serial Out. The potentiometer controlled the intensity of the red led. The serial monitor reads the sensor and the output. On Thursday’s class, I read about the speakers and saw that they used the tone function.

Week of 9/29/20

On Tuesday and Wednesday I continued to explore the speakers. The first one covered one speakers. The second one was multiple speakers making a melody. Finally, the third one you controlled with three different buttons and they each make slightly different sounds.

This circuit uses buttons to make the speaker make different noises.

Week of October 13th, 2020

This week my goal was to work on the smoothing circuit and understand what it does. Like its name, its job is to smooth out the multiple readings it’s getting.

Week of November 17th, 2020

My goal for this week to finish my CV. For Tuesday’s class, I’m planning to put my poster presentation into my CV.

January

I received an Arduino Starter Kit from Joe to start working on it.

Week of January 12th, 2021

With the Arduino Starter Kit, I connected the Arduino to my computer and connected a breadboard to the Arduino. I put a resistor and a led. I was confused why it wasn’t working, but I learned that the led was turned the wrong way. See the tweet from January

Week of February 22nd, 2021

With the Arduino Starter Kit, I’m building an Arduino with a Servo Motor. Thursday’s goal is to attach the servo motor and input the code.

Week of March 9th, 2021

This week I plan on running the servo motor and then making a video on it and uploading it to Twitter.

Week of May 6th, 2021

This week I’m working on running a speaker on the Arduino board.
