Posters for Fall 22 and Spring 23

Despite the website being down for half of this academic year, much progress was made on my project this year. Click the icon to read the posters for the WISRD Physiology Group this year, as well as posters from past years.

1/8/19

Happy New Year! This is my first class back from winter break and I am looking forward to finally completing this scissor lift once and for all.

12/18/18

The next task that our CAD group has relating to the scissor lift is adding a stopping mechanism that allows it to stop a certain height and lock into place so it will be stable. We also have been having a little bit of trouble due to the motor that is going to lift the model because the mechanism we are using does not want to pull/push the bottom bar allowing it to either go up or down properly.

11/27/18

We have fixed the problem with the corners hitting the base and the top of the lift along with raising the lift equally. Now we have to find a motor that is quite enough to not be picked up by the microphones that are going to be onstage and still have enough power to raise the lift.

11/6/18

We have fixed the fragile parts of the scissor lift but we still don’t have a solution to lifting the scissor lift and that is our main focus at this moment. But we have also run into another problem which is that the corners on the moving part are hitting the base of the lift and the top part causing it to not fully extend.

10/23/18

We have completely assembled our first draft of the 1/6th scale model of the scissor lift but some of the parts are a bit fragile and can easily snap so we are currently trying to think of a way around this setback. We are also having some trouble raising the lift evenly instead of just having one side lift up at a time.

10/9/18

In WISRD we have successfully printed out the first set of test pieces for the scissor lift, but we have run into a few problems. The first one being a few of the holes that screws would go into were either slightly off centered or just too big to fit a reasonably sized screw into.

9/18/18

As of now we are still currently working on the pieces of the lift on OnShape and soon we hope to be able to print out the pieces hopefully in the next few weeks.

9/4/18

In WISRD our CAD group has been tasked with building a scissor lift for a school play. To start the build I asked the tech crew at our school for the measurements, and how much it needed to be able to support for the scissor lift to work properly on stage. Once we got the measurements we jumped quickly to making pieces for a model of the lift using OnShape and tinkercad.

8/23/18

This is my first full day in my second year of WISRD and I’m looking forward to my new year in the WISRD program and hopefully this year I will be able to accomplish more and finish bigger projects now that I don’t have to learn how to use any of the current tools that are currently available.

5/14/18

Recently In WISRD I have been using OnShape and making new projects. The most recent one is for the weather balloon that is about to be launched. It is a small support for the balloon. It is meant to make sure the balloon does not fall apart while landing. I had to make it as light as possible while still being strong.

3/5/18

Today in WISRD I finally made an acetone bath for the water bottle handle. I took a glass bowl and covered it with aluminum foil and heated up acetone with the handle being supported by rods over the acetone. It stayed in the bowl for about 5 minutes before I decided to take it out. From this, I learned that next time I put it in acetone I need to keep it in longer if I want it to be smooth.

1/22/18

This week in WISRD the circuit board was finally completed but has yet to be printed. I also changed some parts on the water bottle handle and printed it in ABS so it can be put into acetone and come out with a smooth finish. But first I had to learn how to make an acetone bath to be able to put the water bottle handle into it.

12/11/17

We have been assigned a new project which is to make an ambiguous cylinder. First, we had to make the base of the shape using Ai to combine a circle and a square into one shape. Once that was completed we then put it onto OnShape to make it into a 3D object and added the wavy shape to the top of it to give it the illusion in Tinkercad. After it was printed we discovered that the illusion was barely visible because we did not know the math behind it.

11/13/17

The next project we have been working on is making a 3D printed circuit board, although it only needs to be created as a 2D shape. So far it has been difficult with adding all of the different lines and measurements compared to the water bottle handle. Once it is finished we will be able to print it out and make sure everything is correct.

10/16/17

We have finished the first draft of the water bottle handle and printed it. The test run went well but there were some parts that needed to be changed. We smoothed the edges of the handle and adjusted the size of it. Then after all of the changes were made to the handle we put it back onto the printer software and started to print it. Once we see if the changes we made fit what we were trying to accomplish we will make the last draft and print more of them.

10/6/17

This week in WISRD we are still working on the water bottle handle although we now have a 3D model. We have the measurements correct but we are trying to make it look more like what we are basing the design off of and to make it look nicer. Instead of just being sharp corners we are rounding them to look better. After we are finished with this project we are going to start another one.

9/22/17

This week Emile, Justin, and I have started to work water bottle handle. We made a rough sketch on OnShape and started to add the measurements that we gathered from measuring the handle. Next, we will need to make it into 3D shape and make sure that everything fits before we can print it.

9/12/17

In WISRD I have been trying to learn how to use a 3D printing software called OnShape. So far I have had fun messing around with the tools and seeing what I can build along with doing the tutorials. Eventually, once I understand the platform and how to use all of the tools I will start working on a project.

8/26/17

This is my first week in the WISRD and the school. This year I am excited to see how WISRD is and what this year has for me. I am also going to be trying 3D printing and maybe ar/vr.
