WISRD Guidelines for Generative AI use
These guidelines aim to ensure that generative AI is used ethically, transparently, and responsibly across all of WISRD
1. Transparency and Disclosure
Always disclose when content has been generated by AI, especially in public-facing communications, research, or creative work.
Make clear the distinction between human-generated and AI-generated content.
2. Data Privacy and Security
Do not use or share personally identifiable information without consent when training or interacting with generative AI models. Remember to follow all relevant data privacy laws and ensure data is encrypted and stored securely.
3. Accuracy and Verification
At WISRD we prohibit the use of generative AI for malicious purposes, such as deepfakes, fraud, or harassment. To that end, we also do not tolerate the distribution of harmful or dangerous content using generative AI
In all cases double-check factual accuracy when AI-generated content includes statements of fact, statistics, or other verifiable information.
AI-assisted work should consist of human-AI collaboration rather than full automation of decision-making processes.
5. Creativity and Ownership
Clarify attribution when using AI-generated content in creative work. Ensure that AI-generated content respects the rights of creators and does not plagiarize or infringe on copyrighted materials.
6. Ethical Training Practices
Train AI models using diverse, representative, and ethically sourced data to prevent harmful biases.
Avoid using content from creators who have not consented to have their work used in AI training datasets.
In 2024 it is very difficult to understand the various IP rights involved in Dataset training Mistakes will certainly happen. WISRD is however intolerant to knowingly stealing any Data for Dataset training or any other purpose regardless of its academic importance.
Reflect on the societal impact of your AI applications.
7. Environmental Responsibility
Consider the environmental impact of large-scale AI training and minimize carbon footprint by using efficient computational resources. Optimize AI models to be as energy-efficient as possible.
8. User Empowerment
Provide clear instructions and tools for users to understand, control, and opt out of AI-generated interactions or experiences.
When possible align your work with the WISRD mission to foster AI literacy by educating users on the strengths and limitations of generative AI systems.
9. Education
When possible engage in training sessions and workshops on the effective use of Generative AI.
Knowledge Sharing: Share insights and best practices with the WISRD community.
10. Feedback and Continuous Improvement
Encourage feedback on AI tools and their integration into WISRD activities.
Policy Updates: Periodically review and update these guidelines to align with technological advancements and ethical standards.
These guidelines aim to ensure that generative AI is used ethically, transparently, and responsibly across all of WISRD
